Conor McGregor has revealed that he has had a titanium rod inserted into his leg after his gruesome UFC 264 injury.
And the Irish fighter said that he was injured in the build up to the fight and took to Instagram to provide an update to his fans and also said that he will be using a mobility scooter for the foreseeable future.
McGregor, who turned 33 yesterday, thanked fans for birthday wishes and said that his emotions have been up and down since Saturday's bout.
"What's up guys just after getting out of the hospital and after getting settled into my apartment I'm going to be settling into for a while. It is close to the doctor.
"Keep a positive mindset, we got this. I had a couple of ups and downs the last couple of days, I had a great birthday yesterday and appreciate all the birthday messages all you guys sent me, thank you very much for that.
"I came out of the surgery and was feeling very Euphoric, the job was done and it was a great job that was done on it and I said this was going to be easy it's no problem.
"Then I hit a wall then and I'm in a lot of pain and my mobility is going to be like this for a while and it's not going to be a few days or even a few weeks it's going to be a bit of time and I kind of went into a little rut after that but I know there are going to be ups and downs on this journey and I'm aware of this now and I'm a bit more happy and a bit more accepting of it and motivated to keep going."
McGregor also said that it is the first time he had fresh air since going under the knife.
"We got out of hospital on my birthday and this is the first bit of fresh air that I got since I went into the surgery room so just going to breathe this lovely Cali air in. I touched base with the doctors today and I'm going to keep in touch and bring the family out in a couple of days and see my kids again and just keep the head sharp. I've got this.
"I've got a great team behind me and I want to thank all my team, my coaches my training partners, my family my friends, all my business partners and of course all the medical staff.
"I'm just extremely grateful to every single one of yous and I'm motivated."
McGregor also said that he was injured in the build up to the fight.
"I was injured going into the fight, people are asking me at what point did the leg break. Ask Dana White and ask the UFC, I had stress fractures in my leg going into that cage.
"I was sparring with no shin pads and kicked a knee a few times so I had multiple stress fractures on the shin bone above the ankle and then I have trouble with the ankle anyway throughout the years through fighting all the time.
"I was wrapping my ankle every training session, when the ankle was sore I used to train on my back and that's how I developed those ground and pound shots.
"That is why Dustin backed away when he was on top of me and I was landing the up kicks and the elbows. It's a horrible place to be in when you're against someone like me.
"It's takes so much effort to try and land shots from your top position and while you're trying to do that and using all your energy you're getting lumped out of it by downward elbows and viscous elbows and it is a skill I developed because I had the damaged leg and I had to adjust my training so now I'm after essentially getting what I needed to get there.
"I needed to get treatment on my leg and my ankle and I needed to get treatment on the shinbone and I would have never committed to going under the knife unless something like this has happened."
And McGregor revealed that he has had a titanium rod inserted into his leg and is focusing on his wound recovering.
"I'm after going in and getting exactly what I needed and what I needed was a titanium shin bone so now I have a titanium rod going down from the knee to the ankle and the doctor says it is unbreakable.
"First of all I have to manage the incision and make sure it doesn't get infected and keep the health on it and get it back that way.
"Then I'll start playing with the balance and learning how to stand on it again, learning to stand on the single leg again.
"Then I'll build the strength and then I'll have an unbreakable titanium leg. What a story it's going to be."
